Description
Oakville, Tx Sheriff Patrol Car by Lynn Sprowl
The Oakville jail was built in 1887 and served as the Live Oak County jail until 1919. With a population of 400 it had 7 saloons to supply the local cowboys with entertainment before they began their long months of cattle driving the longhorns on the Chisholm Trail. Oakville became a hotbed of lawlessness during the Civil War and afterwards it became a place of frontier violence. Over 40 men hanged in the notorious live oak "hanging Tree" just outside the Town Square. So much history in this small Texas town. Very cool!
