Description
Hinton Homestead by Lynn Sprowl
Oakville and the region became a real hotbed of lawlessness during the Civil War – And afterwards some of this spilled over into frontier violence in the form of horse thievery, cattle rustling and more until the Texas Rangers cleared out the outlaws and brought them to the Live Oak County Jail in the county seat of Oakville, for justice.
Hinton Homestead sits was built in the 1800's by a local founding family and donated for relocation to the Town Square and restoration in 2009.
It's two front doors open up into the living area of the house and features an open floor concept including a livingroom, diningroom and fully equipped kitchen. This is the smallest house on the square featuring one bedroom that used to be the sleeping porch in it's original form. The outhouse made the move with the house and sits next to it in the yard.
The Hinton name - it is the same founding family, descended from the same Sheriff Harry Hinton who was killed in the jail by inmates plotting to escape.

Very cool capture of this fascinating historical home, Lynn! I see that the outhouse is conveniently located, too! F
