Description
This is the boyhood home of Jesse and Frank James. The boys grew up here, in Kearney, Missouri.
Jesse James was born on Sept. 5,1847 and died April 3,1882. He was an American outlaw, bank and train robber and leader of the James-Younger Gang.
He was assassinated by Bob Ford.
He was first buried in the family plot. This is the picture shown. He was then moved to Mt Olivet Cemetery in Kearney, Missouri
Re-buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney, Missouri in 1995
His body was exhumed in 1995 so DNA tests could confirm that it really was him since many believed he had faked his death to escape the law. DNA tests revealed that the body was indeed that of Jesse James.
His mother, Zerelda, approached the coffin and said “My heart is broken, my heart is broken, broken, broken. Oh, my heart is broken. They have killed my sainted son.”
Zee James (his wife) approached the coffin after Zerelda, sobbing and called on God to avenge Jesse, who she said was killed cowardly for money.
He was legendary and considered a Robin Hood of the Wild West. He was no Robin Hood.
