Description
Crocker Ranch House
Built in 1908-09 using the designs of Charles Gross of Emporia, this Vernacular/Greek Revival structure is a part of the Crocker Ranch, which is located less than two miles north of Matfield Green along Kansas Route 177. The ranch was established by Captain Erastus Bryant Crocker, a Civil War veteran, in 1866. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The Crocker Ranch had extensive cattle and farming operations. Only one building, which is a stone provision house, survives from the original 1860s farm. A house and various buildings were built by Erastus Crocker's son Edward Grey Crocker in the 1880s. The main house was built in 1908-09 and was later remodeled. Other surviving structures include a barn built in 1906 and a grain elevator added in 1915–16.

Beautiful capture, Lynn! I didn't know about the Crocker Ranch. Thanks for the information. I need to detour from the turnpike and see it for myself. F
