Description
Rose Hip by Lynn Sprowl
My interest in rose hips comes from elk watching in Colorado. The elk munch on these all the time. They are also used dried and for holiday decor. The benefits of this natural accessory fruit seem to almost be a cure all. I'm not an herbalist, doctor or medical researcher, so a person must do their own research and consult with their doctor. I simply watched the elk in RMNP devouring them. That sounds like a disclaimer, almost...hahaha!
Anyway here's what I found out about this accessory fruit.
The rose hip or rosehip, also called rose haw and rose hep, is the accessory fruit of the
various species of rose plant. It is typically red to orange, but ranges from dark purple to black in some species. Rose hips begin to form after pollination of flowers in spring or early summer, and ripen in late summer through autumn.
What some claim...
Rich in antioxidants. ...
• May support a healthy immune system. ...
• May protect against heart disease. ...
• May aid weight loss. ...
• May protect against type 2 diabetes. ...
• May reduce inflammation and pain. ...
• May fight skin aging. ...
• Easy to brew at home.
• Rosehip tea is an herbal tea made from the pseudo-fruits of the rose plant.
• It has a delicate, floral flavor that’s slightly sweet with a distinct tart aftertaste.
• Found just below the rose petals, rose hips are small, round, and typically red or orange.
There are several hundred species of rose plants, though research on rose hips has focused on the pseudo-fruits of the Rosa canina plant (1Trusted Source).
Again, this info is from the strange musings of a photographer watching the elk....hahaha...thinking I'd get my medical info from a real doctor/dietitian/trained herbalist.
