Description
Evening Serenade by Lynn Sprowl
Bugling Elk. The typical bugle of the bull elk is a surprising, distinctive sound that begins deep and resonant, and becomes a high pitched squeal before ending in a succession of grunts. As you stand in Horseshoe Park, Moraine Park or Upper Beaver Meadows you may hear one or more bulls bugling and you'll notice the variations. Elk Bugling is one of the top fall sights in Grand County's corner of Rocky Mountain National Park. From mid-September through mid-October and sometimes into November, it is elk breeding season. During this time, visitors can see up to hundreds of elk at a time gather amidst the unbeatable Rocky Mountain scenery for an unforgettable sight. This loud call is the sound of a bull trying to attract and keep an eye on as many cows as possible.
