Description
Helen's Country School by Lynn Sprowl
This one room schoolhouse, built in 1869, now stands at Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. Free to the public, except on weekends, it's a fun place to take the grandchildren...and that's just what I did. He was not interested in the school, but ran toward the sandy playground.
1978 The Farmstead opened Memorial Day weekend. The first year there were 11,000 visitors.
1985 On May 27, 1985, the Farmstead changed its name to Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. This was done as a memorial to Deanna Rose, the first Overland Park police officer killed in the line of duty.
